Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump took a direct shot at pop star Taylor Swift, declaring his “hate” for her on his Truth Social platform. This outburst followed Swift’s recent endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris, Trump’s Democratic rival in the upcoming 2024 election.
In a fiery all-caps post, Trump wrote, “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!” The message came shortly after Swift announced to her 284 million Instagram followers that she would be voting for Harris. Swift praised Harris for “fighting for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them.”
Initially, Trump had shrugged off Swift’s political stance, claiming he was “not a Taylor fan.” But with Harris gaining momentum in public opinion polls and the election drawing closer, the former president has escalated his attacks on the globally popular singer.
Swift’s endorsement has caused quite a stir, with over 9 million people liking her Instagram post, fueling speculation that her support could give Harris a significant edge in the race. The ripple effect from Swift’s endorsement has also been felt on X (formerly Twitter), where Harris’ running mate Tim Walz posted, “Swifties: With your help we’re gonna defeat the smallest man who ever lived.” This remark references one of Swift’s songs titled “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived,” a clear jab at Trump.
Unsurprisingly, Trump’s comments sparked an intense online battle, with many Swift fans flooding social media with messages of support for the singer. Some declared, “I LOVE TAYLOR SWIFT,” while others sided with Trump, using the moment to criticize the Biden administration.
Trump and Swift have had a contentious relationship for years, dating back to the 2018 midterms when Swift openly supported Democratic candidates. At the time, Trump famously quipped that he liked her music “about 25% less.”
