Omogusii community is Ripe for Leading this Country, says Kisii County Governor Simba Arati
Marani, Kisii County – The call for the unity and political mobilization of the Omogusii community ahead of the 2027 General Elections has intensified, with Kisii Governor Simba Arati championing the movement. Speaking during his development tour at Marani Ward in Kitutu Chache North, Arati urged the Abagusii community to come together and rally behind a formidable candidate for the country’s top seat.
The Governor specifically emphasized the importance of voter registration, urging members of the community to register in large numbers in preparation for the next election. He also strongly backed former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i as the ideal candidate to represent Omogusii’s interests at the national level.
Arati’s sentiments come amidst growing concerns of marginalization within President William Ruto’s administration. Despite the community’s contribution to national development, Omogusii has been allocated only one Cabinet Secretary position—Migos Ogamba in the Ministry of Education. Additionally, several leaders from the region among whom are Hon. Timothy Bosire, Hon. Kemosi and the former Nominated Senator and aspirant for Nairobi Women rep Hon Millicent Omanga, have turned down appointments to parastatals, dismissing them as tokenistic and inadequate.
Governor Arati also cited unequal distribution of resources as a key motivator for rallying towards Omogusii Unity. He drew an example of Kiharu MP Hon. Ndindi Nyoro who allocated his constituency a massive sum of 1.5 Billion as CDF while other constituencies get a meager 100 million to 150 million per year.
The apparent sidelining has sparked a wave of agitation among Abagusii leaders, who now see Dr. Matiang’i as a beacon of hope. Having served in key government positions, including as Cabinet Secretary for Education, ICT, and Interior, Matiang’i has proven his leadership mettle and garnered significant support from the region. His rise as a potential presidential candidate is being framed as a move to break the long-standing dominance of the presidency by the Kikuyu and Kalenjin communities.
Mr. Arati has therefore urged the Omogusii community to massively register as voters and equally turn out to vote by 100% just like other communities who value voting because they know how much it counts when it comes to sharing of the National cake.

Political analysts opine that with the right alliances and strategic support from other regions, Dr. Matiang’i could present a formidable challenge in the 2027 presidential race. The push for his candidacy reflects a broader sentiment among marginalized communities seeking inclusivity in national leadership.
As the political landscape continues to take shape, all eyes will be on the Omogusii community’s next move. Will they unite and propel one of their own to the presidency, or will history repeat itself with dominance from the usual political elites? Only time will tell.
