Nigeria’s P-Square Brothers Fighting Over Disrespect and Belittling Claims

The iconic Nigerian music pair P-Square, featuring the Okoye twins, is facing internal strife once more, almost two years post their highly awaited comeback. Peter Okoye, known professionally as Mr. P, has leveled serious accusations against his brother, Paul Okoye, or Rudeboy, charging him with acts of disrespect and slander during interviews. These accusations also extend to their older brother, Jude Okoye, alleging collusion.

Peter disclosed the extent of the rift through a detailed social media post, which has cast a shadow over their previously shining career. P-Square, in their prime during the 2010s, received global recognition for their music. The disagreement this time, as per Peter’s note, stems from what he perceives as Paul’s underhanded comments about his contributions to the group’s successes. He accuses Paul of monopolizing credit for their work and belittling him publicly.

“In your recent interviews, you claimed that you wrote and sang 99% of all P-SQUARE songs and discredited me by saying that our song with Tl “EjeaJo,” which I wrote, was a failure. You went as far as using the YouTube views to discredit me once again. You never acknowledged the other songs like “Get-Squared,” “Bizzy Body,” “Personally,” “Roll It, “Temptation,” “Alingo,” “More than a Friend,” “Shekini, “Say Your Love,” “Gimme Dat,” “Senorita,” “IGBEdu and a few others. Were these songs also considered failures as well?” Peter openly questioned his brother’s narrative.

He went on to point out his brother’s failure to respect and acknowledge his role and efforts, expressing dismay at being overlooked. Peter further emphasized Paul’s lack of appreciation for the talent they both were endowed with and accused him and Jude of undermining his reputation, even extending disrespect to his wife and his musical endeavors.

“Rather than joining forces with me to reclaim our number 1 spot in the music industry, you chose to team up with Jude to claim the number 1 spot in the P-SQUARE group, always looking for opportunities to marginalize and humiliate me. You are always claiming to be P-SQUARE’s songwriter, composer, producer, singer, and backup vocalist; in fact, you are everything, including P-SQUARE’s video director, band, promoter, manager, and even the choreographer. You are the Author and Finisher of P-SQUARE! In fact, I dash you 100% of everything instead of the 99% you claim.”

Peter deflected blame for the group’s disbandment back to Paul, countering earlier allegations made against him. He insinuated that Paul’s actions, intended to alienate Peter from their fanbase, would harm them both, expressing a wish for being left to pursue his music peacefully despite the ill feelings propagated by fans swayed by these misrepresentations.

“You have been doing everything for the fans to hate me, but guess what? They will never hate me; instead, they will hate us both because we have disappointed and failed them. I hope you are happy now. I genuinely wish you nothing but the best, bro! As for those who believe these lies and false narratives and come to my page to drop negative comments, I understand because you have been fed the wrong narrative for a long time. Please allow me to focus and do my music in peace.”

In a counterstatement, Paul rebuked the claims of causing the group’s split. Further, he alleged that Peter had not only sought the breakup but had also escalated matters to Nigerian legal authorities. However, he and Jude were eventually acquitted. This marks the second disjunction within the P-Square camp.
