Motonto Business Community Celebrates the Launch of New Market by Kisii County Government

Kisii, Kenya

The Motonto Business Community is celebrating a major milestone following the launch of their new market, marking a significant improvement in the area’s commercial infrastructure. This modern facility promises to bring organization and comfort to the bustling trading activities that characterize this central hub.

Strategically located at the boundary of Bonchari, Bobasi, and Bomachoge constituencies, the Motonto Market serves as a vital economic center. Traders in fruits, vegetables, and essential goods now have a designated space to carry out their businesses.

The construction of the market began a year ago, and the contractor expressed pride in delivering the project on time. Its completion brings relief to business owners who previously had to endure harsh weather conditions, including heavy rains and scorching sun.

Speaking at the launch, Kisii Governor H.E. Simba Arati expressed his excitement over the project’s success.

“I am excited to officially launch the Motonto Market. This facility will provide a much-needed shelter for our hardworking businesspeople who have faced challenges transacting under the rain and sun,” said Governor Arati.

The market, which can accommodate up to 200 traders, is only the beginning of larger plans for the area. Governor Arati revealed that a more expansive market is currently under construction in collaboration with the national government.

“While this market is a temporary solution, the main market under construction will offer significantly more space and attract additional businesses to Motonto. We expect to complete and launch it within a few months, with the President joining us for the official opening,” he added.

Governor Arati also outlined additional work needed to finalize the current market, including the installation of solar lighting for security, pit latrines, cabro paving, and water tanks to provide clean water for traders.

The launch of Motonto Market is part of a broader development agenda pursued by Governor Arati during his two years in office. Other achievements include the construction of roads, ECDE classrooms, Level 3 and 4 hospitals, and vocational training centers.

Members of the business community expressed their gratitude and optimism at the market’s completion.

“We are very excited that Governor Etaya has finally answered our long-standing prayers. The old market could barely accommodate 10 people, but this new facility is a game-changer,” said one trader.

The community also urged critics to give the Governor time to deliver on his development promises, emphasizing the tangible progress witnessed so far.

The Motonto Market stands as a testament to the Kisii County Government’s commitment to improving infrastructure and fostering economic growth.
