Breaking News: Kware Murder Suspect Escapes from Police Custody

Collins Jumaisi Khalusha, the prime suspect in the murders of at least 42 women, has escaped from Gigiri Police Station in Nairobi. Khalusha, who was awaiting a court appearance, reportedly fled alongside 12 Eritrean nationals detained for illegal immigration.

According to a police report, the escape occurred early Tuesday morning. At around 5:00 a.m., Police Constable Gerald Mutuku and the canteen manager conducted routine cell checks to serve breakfast. Upon opening the cell door, they were alarmed to find that the 13 detainees had vanished, having cut through the wire mesh at the basking bay.

Khalusha, whose case has garnered significant public attention, was in custody pending a plea hearing. He had previously made headlines after confessing to the gruesome murders of 42 women, whose bodies were discarded in the Kware area of Embakasi between 2022 and 2024. His chilling confession included the murder of his wife, whom he reportedly strangled, dismembered, and disposed of at a dumpsite.

However, Khalusha later retracted his confession, alleging that it was extracted under duress by the police, who he claimed tortured him into admitting to the crimes.

In response to the escape, the Sub-County Police Commander, Sub-County Criminal Investigation Officer (SCCIO), and duty officer from Gigiri have initiated investigations to recapture the suspects. The authorities are now under pressure to apprehend Khalusha, who is considered highly dangerous, along with the other escapees.

The incident has raised concerns about security lapses at the police station. It has prompted a broader inquiry into how the detainees managed to flee.
