Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump vowed that he would return to Pennsylvania, where he narrowly survived an assassination attempt, while vice president Kamala Harris was on her week-long bid to become the Democratic presidential nominee with the endorsement of the former United States president Barack Obama.
“I will be going back to Butler, Pennsylvania, for a big and beautiful rally,” Trump posted on his Truth Social site. He did not provide the details on the where or when.
Kamala Harris, the first Black woman and first Asian American to ever serve as the vice president, quickly got the support of the democratic party after President Joe Biden named her to succeed him.
Public opinion polls have shown her narrowing Trump’s lead. A Wall Street Journal poll showed that Trump holds 49% support while Harris holds 47%, with a margin error of 3% points. A survey by the newspaper earlier this month showedshowed that Trump was leading Harris by 48% to 42%.
Obama and his wife Michelle endorsed Kamala Harris on Friday, adding their names to a number of prominent Democrats who are supporting Harris’ White House bid after Biden ended his re-election campaign under pressure from the party.”We called to say that Michelle and I couldn’t be prouder to endorse you and to do everything we can to get you through this election and into the Oval Office,” Obama told Harris on a phone call posted online by her campaign team. As she spoke on the phone, Harris expressed her gratitude for the endorsement and their long friendship.
“Thank you both. It means so much. And we’re going to have some fun with this too,” said Harris, who would be the first nation’s president should she be voted into office after the elections on November 5th. Barack Obama, the first Black U.S. president, remains among the most famous figures in the Democratic party, almost a decade after he left office.
A Reuters poll showed that 55% of Americans and 94% of the democrats viewed Michelle Obama favorably, a higher approval percentage than that of Harris, 37% nationally, and 81% within the party. Therefore, the endorsement could help boost Harris’ campaign against Trump in the presidential bid.
