In light of a strike alert from its aviation workforce, the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has announced that it has arranged alternative measures to maintain uninterrupted service.
The Authority disclosed this information in a press release distributed on Friday, noting that it is currently engaging in discussions with its executives, the Ministries of Labor and Social Protection, and representatives from the Kenya Aviation Workers Union to reach an accord.
“We are committed to maintaining the highest service standards for all passengers and stakeholders at all our airport facilities across the country,” KAA proclaimed.
The principal aviation union in the nation has indicated its intention to initiate a strike action the following Monday in protest against a controversial deal with an Indian enterprise to expand its largest airport facility.
The union, which acts on behalf of airport employees, has expressed concerns over the deal finalized last month with Adani Airport Holdings, based in India. According to the union, this arrangement would result in the displacement of jobs and the recruitment of workers from outside Kenya.
In strong opposition to what it terms the “unlawful intended sale of JKIA (Jomo Kenyatta International Airport) to Adani Airport Holdings of India,” the union has issued a seven-day notice for the strike commencing on Monday.
