KISII, Kenya – In a significant move aimed at enhancing governance and service delivery, His Excellency Hon. Paul Simba Arati, the Governor of Kisii County, today officiated the inauguration of the Kisii Municipal Board. In a ceremony marked by optimism and a call for diligent service, Governor Arati outlined his expectations for the newly established board, emphasizing the principles of accountability, transparency, and efficiency.

During his address, Governor Arati officially transferred all municipal services from the county government to the newly formed municipal board. This transfer marks a pivotal shift in the administration of municipal services, aimed at improving responsiveness and efficiency in meeting the needs of Kisii residents.

“As we inaugurate this board, I urge you to execute your duties with the highest levels of accountability and transparency,” Governor Arati stated. “Efficiency should be your guiding principle as you take on this critical role.”

In a bid to achieve quick and tangible results, Governor Arati directed the board to prioritize the completion and operationalization of the Material Recovery Facility (MRF) currently under construction at the Agricultural Training Centre (ATC). The governor highlighted the importance of this facility in addressing waste management challenges within the county and contributing to the broader objectives of the Lake Region Economic Block.

“The Material Recovery Facility is a key project that will significantly improve waste management in Kisii County,” Governor Arati explained. “I expect the board to ensure that this facility is completed and becomes operational as soon as possible.”

The newly appointed board members, tasked with steering the municipal services, include Dr. Jackline Kwamboka, George Nyakundi, Albert Otungu, Jamil Shamji, Jones Mokaya, Pancras Chweya, and Everline Moraa. Each member brings a wealth of experience and expertise to their roles, promising a diverse and competent team to lead Kisii Municipality into a new era of effective governance.

Governor Arati’s directives and the establishment of the municipal board underscore his administration’s commitment to improving service delivery and governance structures in Kisii County. Residents are hopeful that these changes will bring about the much-needed improvements in municipal services, enhancing their quality of life and fostering economic growth.

The successful operationalization of the MRF is particularly anticipated as a significant step towards achieving sustainable waste management solutions, benefiting not only Kisii County but also contributing to the environmental goals of the Lake Region Economic Block.

As the Kisii Municipal Board embarks on this new chapter, all eyes will be on their ability to deliver on the governor’s directives and set a benchmark for accountable and efficient service delivery in the region.
