Phil Foden, the dynamic Manchester City attacker, clinched the prestigious Professional Footballers’ Association Player of the Year award on a fine Tuesday, marking another accolade in his burgeoning career. His instrumental performances were central to Manchester City securing an unparalleled fourth straight Premier League championship.

At just 24, Foden found the back of the net 19 times and provided eight crucial assists under the tutelage of Pep Guardiola, edging Arsenal to the top spot in a thrilling season finale.

“To win this award is something very special, and it is one that I am very proud of and grateful for. To be recognised this way by your fellow professionals means everything, and I would like to thank everyone who voted for me,” expressed a grateful Foden. He also extended his gratitude towards Guardiola, the coaching staff, and his peers for their continuous support in his quest for excellence.

With ambition burning bright, Foden is now eyeing a fifth consecutive league title following City’s robust commencement to their title defence, marked by a victory against Chelsea. “Last season was another very special one for everyone at the Club, but now all our focus is concentrated on trying to achieve more success this term,” he mentioned, reflecting on the journey ahead.

Additionally, Foden’s impressive performances earned him the 2023-24 Premier League Player of the Season award and the accolade of Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year, underscoring his influence on and off the pitch. City’s football director, Txiki Begiristain, lauded Foden’s recognition, highlighting his embodiment of the club’s values and ethos.

Among the nominees for the Player of the Year were Foden’s comrades Erling Haaland and Rodri, alongside contenders from other clubs, indicating a fiercely competitive season. Simultaneously, Chelsea’s Cole Palmer secured the PFA Young Player of the Year, marking a year where English talent shone brightly, reminiscent of the 2009-10 season achievements of Wayne Rooney and James Milner.

Manchester City also celebrated success in the women’s category, with Khadija Shaw winning the Women’s Player of the Year after an outstanding season that saw her leading as the top scorer in the Women’s Super League. “I am both happy and proud to have received this award; to be recognized in such a way by my peers is a very special honor,” Shaw stated, acknowledging her peers’ recognition of her talents.
