
Hailing from a humble and modest single room in Nairobi’s Ngara, the talented designer has made great steps and her work has placed her among the proud designers responsible for the Olympics. She was responsible for designing the attire for the Kenyan team for the Olympics opening ceremony. All these speak to her creativity, resourcefulness and commitment to sustainable fashion designs.
Joy proudly identifies herself as a fashion designer who is driven by passion and profession. She also describes herself as an ambitious entrepreneur with a fun-loving spirit. She has an undergraduate degree in Fashion from Kenyatta University and she has been pursuing her dream ever since she graduated in 2018. As every designer, Joy takes pride in her hands-on approach in managing all aspects of her business enterprise herself.
The past year has been a period of transformation for her after she secured her current workspace with her mother’s assistance. This move has allowed her to expand operations, leading to the hiring of an intern who helps to manage the workload that has since increased.
Initially, Joy focused on creating bespoke pieces such as bridal wear, kimonos and jackets for individual clients. Her turning point came when the Ministry for Youth and Sports Affairs invited designers to create outfits for the Kenyan Olympics team. Recognizing this opportunity, she immersed herself in research, drawing inspiration from previous Olympics outfits. She submitted her sketches and anxiously waited for the final outcome. Finally, in May she received the greatest news of her life that would be a major turning point in her career as a designer. She had won the contract to design the opening ceremony attire.

This was a dream come true for Joy as her life-long dream was her work to be displayed on an international platform for all the world to see. The opening ceremony showcased the spectacular creations that Joy had worked on for the Kenyan Olympics team. The Kenyan outfit stood out among the outfits of the other nations garnering widespread acclaim for their creativity and cultural significance. Joy’s designs have been praised for their attention to detail and their ability to capture the essence of Kenya.
The success of the Olympics contract has opened new doors for Joy who has received many inquiries and orders from impressed clients, and the exposure has led to collaborations with other designers and brands, cementing her reputation in the fashion design world.
